生活科「みんなであそぼう」では、2年生が、１年生のお友達を招待してリサイクル用品を利用して作ったおもちゃを通して交流をしました。
During our Life Skills lesson entitled, “Let’s play with everyone”, the 2nd Graders invited 1st graders to play together using toys made with recycled materials which the 2nd Graders had constructed.

まず招待状を英語と日本語で書き、2週間前に１年生の一人一人のお友達に渡しに行きました。
First, the Grade 2 students wrote individual invitation letters in both English and Japanese, then delivered them in person to each Grade 1 student two weeks before the event.

当日は、子ども達が英語で司会・進行を担当しました。
2年生の子ども達が準備をしている最中も、司会の子ども達が、1年生を英語で楽しませてくれました。
On the game day, the students were excited to play the roles of “Game Managers”. They were able to communicate effectively n English with the younger students.

２年生の子ども達が作ったゲームで1年生が遊ぶ時間になると、それぞれのグループでは、ゲームの受付から説明、1年生のお世話まですべて英語で行いました。
In the entire game time, English was the only language spoken. It was really exciting to hear the junior “receptionists” call out for customers and explain the rules of the game.

 
1年生だけではなく、2年生もとても楽しい時間を過ごしました。
最後に、1年生から「2年生は英語がとっても上手！」と言われました。2年生は嬉しくて、「また遊びに来てね！一緒にまたゲームをしましょう！」と言っていました。
The students from both grades had a wonderful and fun time. The 1st graders commented: “Grade 2 spoke in very good English !” The latter extended an invitation to the Grade 1 students to come and play again during recess time.

1年生の先生方からも「1年たつと、より英語が上手になりますね。」と言われ、それがまた2年生の自信につながっていったようです。
The Grade 1B teachers also commented that after one year, their students would be able to speak very well in English just like the Grade 2B students. Grade 2B students were elated that this memorable event was a great success.
