Mr. Naka Bokunen Visits AMICUS

Mr. Naka Bokunen, a woodblock print artist, visited AMICUS and shared his impressions after viewing the giant woodblock prints that the 4th grade students created as part of their art class.

The 4th graders visited the Bokunen Art Museum, where they made draft sketches of their woodblock prints, and then worked together to complete a wonderful work of art.

Theme for this year was “Mountain”. The students were inspired by one of his works, “Soap bubbles flew, it flew to Fuji,” then they created their work. He commented, “I created the work that made me feel the strength of life of the Fuji mountains and the shortness of life of soap bubbles, but the AMICUS students went beyond what I meant and created an even more wonderful work that seemed to surround the mountains with soap bubbles as their souls. He told the students, who had made mistakes in their work, “it turned out to be a good taste,” and there is no failure in art, and that art is unlimited. We also look forward to the day when an artist is emerging from AMICUS!
