Fourth graders had a class on making old-fashioned Okinawan toys.
We invited Mr. Teruya Kanshin, who is the chief director of the association for passing on old tales and toys in Okinawa.
On this day, students made bracelets using the nuts of a plant called “shishidama”(Job’s tears ).
Everyone was pleased to see Mr. Teruya’s other works including windmills, birds, and bamboo dragonflies made from adan(Screw pine)leaves.
After listening to a traditional Okinawan tale, the event concluded.
What they learned from today will be presented at the booth at the Cultural Day on December 20th.
The fourth graders are looking forward to the event who will be the ones to teach other students.
