Today's AMICUS 2024 / 10 / 25

K2 Exploring into the Forest @ AMICUS

Today, K2 went exploring in the AMICUS campus.

The Tree Nymph Butterfly (Oogomadara) is frequently observed at AMICUS, which is a place surrounded by nature.

The Tree Nymph Butterfly is recognized as the Prefectural butterfly for Okinawa Prefecture and the city butterfly for Uruma, Naha, Miyakojima and Ishigaki.

Ogomodara’s larvae eat the leaves of Hourai Kagami (Parsonia Barbata) leaves.

The Horai Kagami contains alkaloids (toxic), and the larva of the Ogomadara eat those leaves to store up the poison in their bodies, preventing them from being hunted by other animals.

A lot of Oogomadara can be seen at AMICUS because of  the presence of Horai-Kagami leaves growing at AMICUS.

They tend to prefer the color red, so  wear something red to school if you want to be friendly with the butterflies!
