On May 29th and 30th, we invited 14 students and 5 teachers from Taiwan including the principal from Nanshi Elementary School in Taoyuan City, Taiwan for an international exchange.
The Tiwanese school and AMICUS have been exchanging through online, and they have been having a mascot exchange for the past 4 years. This was our first in-person exchange with the Taiwanese school.
[Day 1]
The 5th graders performed karate at the welcome event. The Taiwanese children performed a cup song and gave a presentation about Taiwan.
After that, They joined a Japanese class.
The Taiwanese children gave Chinese character quizzes “海賊王 (One Piece),” “全家 (Family Mart),” etc. Our G5s enjoyed learning about different meanings with the same characters they were familiar with.
In the afternoon, we played games and worked on our compost project that we have been working on at our respective schools.
To make the event more exciting, the Taiwanese students brought a lot of tools from Taiwan.
[Day 2]
We went to play park golf together.
Both Taiwanese and AMICUS students had become very comfortable with each other, and enjoyed taking pictures together during recess.
In the afternoon, we had a lot of fun at the park and had a mini farewell party.
It seemed like a very quick two days and the children were very satisfied with each school.
We will continue to keep in touch with them online and as pen pals.
We are very much looking forward to the next exchange meeting!
