The SDGs Committee is made up of 15 students from grades 7 to 9.
They thought about what goals they could achieve with the 17 SDGs, and focused on “Zero Hunger.”
After learning that there are people in Okinawa who have problems with food shortages, the committee members decided to conduct a food donation.
They set up boxes in the school and collected the food supplies from households ranging from kindergarteners to junior high.
Of course, teachers and staff pitched in too! So much food items were collected in the two-week period and donated to the Uruma City Council of Social Welfare.
The SDGs committee members said;
“We learned that even us kindergarteners, elementary, and junior high school students could contribute to society.”
“I hope this activity will encourage more people to become interested in small and big issues in the world.”
The SDGs Committee thought of what they could do to contribute to society and actually put it into action.
That’s what the students of AMICS are all about! Please keep this spirit in mind in the future!
