【JH】G8 Students Learned About Kijoka's Bashofu (abaca cloth) !

In their home economics class, the 8th graders invited Ms. Taira from the Kijoka Bashofu Business Cooperative, to learn about bashofu.

Bashofu is a traditional Okinawan craft that has been attracting international attention in recent years. The children listened to the lecture with great interest!

After watching a video about the process of making bashofu, Ms. Taira showed them the actual process of peeling the skin off of abaca tree, a tree that is used for making bashofu.

The 8th graders were surprised to learn how hard it was to make bashofu, that dozens of people were involved in the process, and that the whole process was done by hand and tools, without using any machines.

Thank you very much, Mr. Taira, for this precious opportunity.
