G7 had a Zoom lecture by special lecturers Mr. Kanemoto, Mr. Shimabukuro, and Mr. Takara, who are linguistics and communication studies teachers of the University of the Ryukyus.

 

In the lecture, the students enjoyed learning some languages such as Japanese, American English, British English, and Okinawan dialect (dialects from Mainland Okinawa, Ishigaki island, Tarama island, and Yonaguni island).

 

It was an interesting experience for them as they learned that by changing their perspective they could see things differently, and even if they use the same language and words, it could change the meaning depending on where you are.

 

They also learned that Okinawan dialects have totally different ways of saying things depending on the area, and students were surprised that there are some words that are actually pronounced like English.
