Grade 5 went to Ishigaki island for their island experience for three days from Jan 13 to 15.
Day 1
They visited some places on the island with guides to learn about the Yaeyama islands (an archipelago in the southeast of Okinawa).
Later, they had a beach cleaning as environmental learning. The beach was blue and beautiful at first glance.
However, on the sands were many types of garbage that were drifted from somewhere or were disposed of by someone.
5th graders worked very hard on the cleaning to reserve this beautiful ocean of Ishigaki island.
Day 2
They went out to research the topics varied by the group, such as culture, history, creatures, schools, and constellations.
In the afternoon, they made a lamp with coral reefs and shells brought back from the beach.
They also made a poster for the research presentation the next day.
Day 3
Each of the groups had a presentation about what they’ve learned the day before.
Each group had learned a lot of new things also learned from other groups as well.
All 5th-grade students were able to complete the island trip safely.
They were able to learn more about Ishigaki island and it became a wonderful memory for 5th graders!
