Grade 4 has been learning braille as part of their Japanese unit.
We borrowed textbooks and tools that had braille on them for self-reliance training from the prefectural school for the blind.
The items include books, picture books, playing cards, bingo cards and more.
The text books they use are the same as what we use at AMCIS, but the students were surprised because the text books were written in two types of font sizes.
We also invited Social Welfare Association of Uruma city and learned how to write braille by using the braille slate.
It was the first time for students to write braille on their own, putting the dots vertically one by one, and some students said that they didn’t know that writing braille took so much time and hard work.
Some students said that “I want to be a braille volunteer someday.”
We are going to consider what we can do for the visually challenged people from now on.
