Today's AMICUS 2018 / 11 / 14

【Elementary】G1 students make sandwiches using their own harvested basil

They started growing basil after finishing a cycle of morning glories.

Today they made grilled cheese sandwiches using the basil they grew themselves.

“I’m going to rip the leaves into pieces.”

“The cheese doesn’t come off!”

“The bread smells tasty!”

Using their five senses, they appeared to enjoy cooking.

“Is it ready?”

He carefully lifted the sandwich.

“Hey look! Basil leaves didn’t melt!”

That was but one great discovery made by one of them.

“Put your hands together! Kwacchi-sabira*!”

*That’s a local Okinawan greeting before starting to eat.

“Yummmm!!!”

“I like the smell of the basil!”

Did their sandwiches taste good? The answer is quite obvious. Just take a look at their faces!

It’s hot off the frying pan!  But mostly, it was something they grew themselves which made it so special!!

“Teachers, do you want some? Did you have yours?” asked the students.

Aww, how caring these students are!!

“I’ve already had mine, and I’m full.  How about taking it home to your parents? Who needs a ziplock bag?”

“Me! Me! Me!”

They all wanted their parents to have a taste of their hand-made sandwiches.

“Gochiso– sama deshita!”

(A Japanese greeting at the end of a meal)

Now, it’s time to clean up!

Cooking isn’t finished until they’ve cleaned up after themselves.

The room needs to be as clean and beautiful as it was before they came.
