Our 5 and 6-year-olds spent the night last Friday.
How unusual and exciting an experience to be at school as the sun sets, after dark, and as they welcome a new day!!
Children participated in many activities, in an effort to build our “team mentality.”
Let’s Cook Curry & Rice Together!!!
Cooking is a very nice team-building exercise, especially for children this age.
Cutting vegetables, stirring and frying… they all took turns in sharing tasks to make the best curry ever!!!
Excited, and looking forward to dinner time!
Pinata Time!!!
While waiting for the curry to simmer, they took on a fun challenge of “cracking the Pinata.”
“Smash!!!”
Sweet sound of a direct impact, as the Pinata breaks in half, pops open, and a bunch of candy crumbles to the floor. Wait… what’s this piece of paper? Each one has a letter of the alphabet written on it.
They played another game, called “what’s that animal?” Children each holding a letter stand in order, trying to correctly spell animal names. These children are learning more about animals, so they’re experts already!
Dinner Time!!!
After getting some good exercise (smashing the Pinata), now they’re ready for dinner!!
“Are we hungry!!??”
“Yes… we… are!!!”
“itadaki ma~~s!!!”
“…YUM!!”
You can see it in their faces… it must really taste awesome, especially after cooking together.
Already, some of them are seen lining up for seconds.
Night Walk
After dinner, they went on a Night Walk.
“Are there… ghosts!?”
“No, I’m afraid…! I don’t wanna go…!!”
Children’s comments like these give adults a sense of peace, that children these days still get scared at the thought of ghosts… just like we did back when….
Have no worries, children…! They have the cool tool….. “Glow-Sticks”!!
Actually going out into the darkness can be quite intimidating. Some children were crying, because it was already “very dark.”
Once their eyes got accustomed to the dark, they were able to enjoy our Night Walk… as you can see…
Bed Time
They were more than ready to fall asleep, after a full day, after cooking together, after the Pinata, and the Night Walk.
Don’t forget to brush your teeth!!!
…. good night…..zzZZ
Time for morning exercise
GOOD MORNING, OKINAWA!!!
GOOD MORNING, AMICUS!!!
After a good night’s sleep, all of kinder was full of energy once again.
They had a round of morning exercise, and went for a brief walk around the school grounds.
Unlike the night-walk the evening before, it’s so nice and fresh, walking in the brisk morning air.
Pancake for Breakfast!!!
Pancakes taste so much better when we eat ‘em together. And of course, the leftover curry & rice from the night before.
Then they washed their yogurt containers, to be used for arts and crafts.
