Our AMICUS education emphasizes the significance of affording students the opportunity to present their own work.
In this episode, G3 students rose to the occasion to try creating an original Paper Theatre (Kamishiba’i).
Preparation
“So, what kind of story might we make?” — We started by checking books on the shelves in our library. Another important part of the activity is to consider the moral of the story… (or message).
“What could we draw for each of the scenes?” — This was yet another challenge faced by students.
We also had to make sure the script (written on the backs of pictures) was in the proper order, to match the presentation of scenes.
Presentation Day…
We presented our work to G2 (students & teachers).
A variety of characters were presented (animals and people alike), and they were quite tasteful.
Stories presented an array of interesting messages. Many of them seemed to focus on “How to solve problems peacefully”. We can see how much these students think about being friendly with each other in their everyday lives.
After each story, there was a certain amount of time to ask questions.
“Who were the characters in the story?”
“What kind of message did the story have?”
The G2 students were listening carefully to the stories. They were able to answer all of them perfectly. Great Job!!
Thank you for listening!!!
There was a big round of applause from the audience!!!
“A bird does not foul the nest which it is about to leave” is an old Japanese saying which makes us think how we might want to clean a space after using it.
These words are appropriate, given the context of G3 students who volunteered to pick up leftover scraps of paper (and they weren’t even told to do so!!!)
