Today in Kindergarten, we focused on the “Gorilla Project.”
Special Kinder activities are planned around a theme… and this time our theme was “the gorilla”.
Children worked in teams, and they used various materials to create their original gorilla.
They were given 45 minutes to finish their gorilla, which may seem like a long time, but… of course, you know how time flies when you’re having fun!
This child has fun touching and feeling the fluffy pieces of shredded paper.
This child is attempting to apply glitter to the paper. Glitter was intended for decorating parts of the gorilla’s body, but… this child had an original idea to make the background shiny.
Children are known for their better ideas!!
String with some fluff on it… which was used here to represent the hairy body of the gorilla.
This group used green paper, and attached the gorilla to it. Blue tape was used to show clouds and the blue sky.
They also used a rectangular cardboard for a tree, so the gorilla could climb up. The gorilla itself was not enough… they also wanted to recreate its habitat.
Hang on… Time’s up, and he’s still cutting?
They were instructed to work as a team, but he is still working on the gorilla. What’s going on?
“Mostly girls in the team means they can go ahead with their girly gorilla ideas… I’m on my own program to make my own gorilla… it’s gonna look COOL!!”
He really wanted to make it.
Although, it’s never “wrong” to express their opinions. We make sure that we listen to all voices. After a group discussion, we all accepted it. The others by the way, made a gorilla in a zoo.
Learning takes everywhere at Kindergarten. Play to learn, Learn to play. No wonder this is our Kinder’s motto.
We were reminded how focused and hard-working they really are!!
