Today I visited the classes of grade 4.
In Science, the students were learning about the growth and the life-cycle of plants. They focused on “Goya”, a typical Okinawan vegetable. They got into groups with their tablets, and learned the target words which relates to the growth of plants. Some groups actually went outside and took the pictures of Goya growing in the garden. In the end of the unit, they will gather all the information for the presentation. Some of the students decided to use Emojis to decorate their work.
During recess, they share the field with the 5th graders. We can see that the students love to play dodge ball here at AMICUS, just like all other schools in Japan.
In the afternoon, they had music. This time they had two classes put together. In their music class, recently they started learning how to play recorders. In this lesson, they watched a video of a group of professionals play recorders. It’s always an important lesson that they enjoy listening to good performance, so they can perform well later on. Then, they sang a medley of songs for warm-up. They were already into their rhythm as the teacher started to play the piano. It’s quite amazing that they remember all the songs, both Japanese, and English. As their throats became ready, they moved on to singing in rounds. It came to a good volume when two classes are put together, and the harmony was great. It really was a pleasant music to listen to.
Thank you all for the beautiful harmony! I think I will stop by again.
