Grade 3B was lucky enough to have a master tofu maker come and show the students how they make traditional Okinawan style tofu (yushidofu). The students learnt about the various ways soy beans can be used for such things as miso soup and natto. They were then able to use a stone mill to mash the soy beans into soy pulp (okara) and squeeze it into a bowl to be heated and turned into tofu. The students were extremely excited at being part of the process and did a great job!
Soon afterwards we were able to partake in the warm and nourishing flavour of freshly made tofu. Everybody loved it! We would like to thank Hiroshi, the representative from Ikeda tofu, and the parents who organised and took part in this educational and fun event.
Thank you.
