Learning about Praying Mantis’ EGG through OBSERVATION

May 31, 2021 —> We caught the pregnant PRAYING MANTIS.  カマキリをつかまえたよ!

June 2, 2021 —> The Praying Mantis laid an EGG. カマキリが卵をうんだよ!

June 21, 2021 —> We leaned that the praying mantis’ life ends before the egg hatch so we release the MOMMY praying mantis so it can enjoy its days outside. カマキリのお母さんは、卵が孵化する前に死んでしまうっていうことを知って、みんなでマミーカマキリを逃がすことにしました。

July 1, 2021 —> The Praying Mantis hatched and look! It gave birth to a lot of nymphs.         卵からたくさんのカマキリの赤ちゃんが生まれたよ!!!

July 2, 2021 —> We release the nymphs and take care of just a few.カマキリの赤ちゃんを少しだけ育ててみることにしました。残りのカマキリの赤ちゃんはみんなで逃がすことに決めました。

Learned about PARASITES through SHOW and TELL

We heard from Mr. Naka’s lecture that when a parasite gets inside the praying mantis egg it bears a different insect. Our Kindergarteners did not have any image of this so, they were not able to understand this statement. But today, we had our first-hand information through one of our Kinder friends who also observed an egg of a praying mantis. Mr.Nakaでのレクチャーで、かまきりの卵に寄生する虫もいて、かまきりの赤ちゃんが生まれてくるとは限らないというお話を聞きました。でも、みんな寄生のイメージが持てませんでした。図鑑や本で調べていたけど、それを理解することができなずにいた中、今日のshow and tellで、それを実際に見て学びました。

“I was waiting for baby praying mantis to come out but I am surprised to see a different insect came out of the egg!!!” he said. An insect went inside the praying mantis’ egg, ate the nymphs inside and took over the egg that’s why this phenomenon occurred. (発表したお友達の声)「かまきりが生まれると思って楽しみに待っていたけど、違う虫が出てきた!」「おながあしぶとこばちっていう虫の名前だよ」「調べて分かったのが、しっぽを(かまきりの)たまごにさして、たまごをうんだんだよ」

Through our Show and Tell, our Kinder friends are able to share their interests. This also helps them think critically by sharing information and asking questions to satisfy their curiosity. Show and tellをすることで、色々な疑問や不思議をみんなで解決することができました♪

However, we have few unanswered questions today. 1. Why does an insect get inside someone else’s egg and make it like their own house? 2. When they are little, they eat praying mantis. What about when they grow up? 今回のShow and tellを通して、子どもたちは、また新たに疑問を持ちました。「なんで自分のおうちをつくらずに他の虫の卵にうむの?」「赤ちゃんのときは、カマキリの赤ちゃんを食べるけど、大人になったら、何を食べるの?」・・・

Because of this, we challenged everyone to check picture books/encyclopedia/other materials to research more so we can find the answers together! また、図鑑や本などを使って一緒に疑問を解決していきたいです!

K1’s Busy Week

Despite it being a short week, K1s did a lot of things!

K1 friends began to present their soy bean observations to each other.

We talked a lot about “peace” this week. We read books about peace and asked each other what we think peace means Then we worked together to paint peace doves for Amicus “Peace Week” and make our June wall decoration.

K1 friends made their “I’m Special” books. Now they are learning to read them. We are reading together. Next, students will learn to read their books by themselves. We would like for them to read their books to their parents during their PTC meetings. Please clap for them!

K1s enjoyed a fun and challenging P.E. lesson.

Kinder Peace Assembly

June 23rd is a yearly PEACE MEMORIAL DAY in Okinawa. Before that, we have read a book and talked to our Kinder friends about it. 6月23日は、慰霊の日です。そこで、AMICUSでは、平和について考える機会を作りました。

先日、What is PEACE? 「平和ってなに?」とみんなで話してみました。

Many friends shared their ideas of PEACE.

「コロナが治ったら平和」”If there is no more CORONA, then there is PEACE.”.

「かぞくで遊ぶこと」”It means playing with my family together.”

「空や海がきれいで外にいっぱいバッタが飛んでいたら平和」”When I see a beautiful ocean, nice sky and grasshoppers hopping, it feels peaceful.”

「ゴミの上で生活している人がいなくなること」”If we don’t produce a lot of trash then, there will be no more garbage collector. Let’s take care of our environment and mother earth more so we can live peacefully.”

「平和の時に生まれてきてよかった」”I am lucky to be born now that there is no more war in Japan.”

みんなの思う平和がたくさんでてきました。Our Kindergarteners have lots of ideas and they are thinking deeply about PEACE.

今日は、幼稚園みんなで集まって、平和集会を行いました。Today, we gathered both K1 and K2 for our PEACE ASSEMBLY.

沖縄で起こった戦争の絵本を読んだり、「なんで戦争になったんだろう?」「どうすれ平和でいられるんだろう?」みんなの考えを聞きながらいろいろと学びました。Again, we shared with them a storybook entitled “ITADAKIMASU”. We listened to their ideas, questions and taught together on how can we enjoy peace through our simple ways.

「戦争のときは、食べるものがなくてカタツムリを食べていたことがびっくりした。」”When I heard that they didn’t have food, they ate snail. I am shocked.”

「戦争が怖かった」”I am scared of war.”

「てっぽうが怖かった」”I am scared of gun.”

「なんで戦争のときは、やまにいくの?」”During the war, why did they hide in the forest?”

「なんで武器をもっていないのに攻撃するの?」”Why are they fighting with those unarmed Okinawans?”

そんな疑問も出てきました。Those are the reactions and questions by our Kinder friends.

平和な世界が続くために、「友達と一緒にあそぶこと」「お友達にやさしくすること」「こまっているお友達がいたら助け合ったり、お友達の考えやアイディアもきくこと」など、自分たちができることも考えました。We are lucky to experience a peaceful world. We taught together on how our friends can continue living peacefully by doing the following: (1) playing with my friends, (2) be kind to my friends, (3) help each other, listen to my friends ideas and think of my friend’s feelings too.

色んなお友達がいて、みんな違っているから、おもしろいし、助け合える。そんな、お互いを尊敬したり、感謝しあえる素敵な歌もみんなで聞きました。We also listened to this song to encourage them to respect each other’s differences and appreciate other people’s uniqueness.

ご家庭でも、慰霊の日について、お子様のお話を聞いてみたり、ご家族で考える機会を持ってみてくださいね。Please listen to your child’s ideas and opinions about PEACE and share with them something about it too.

At 12noon, let us pause for a moment to be thankful of all the blessings that we are receiving and experiencing now.

Father’s Day 2021

K1 friends made their greeting cards and planted soybeans.
