Amicus Kindergarten

Learning to play. Playing to learn. :-)

New K1 friends and fun P.E. experiences

This week K1 explored the Amicus forest and found a very rare YELLOW praying mantis. Students want to observe and take care of her for one month. They decided to call her “Lucky”.

子どもたちは、Luckyのかごの掃除や餌となったバッタ、蛾、蝶、セミたちのお墓をつくり、「Luckyに命をくれてありがとう。」と供養しました。

We enjoyed discovering many other little creature friends during our nature walks and outside play times this week.

After observing the bugs and insects we returned them to the forest.

We have started to prepare for Family Sports Day. K1s enjoyed their outside P.E. time.

Moon Art

On September 21st, 2021 we have witnessed the moon on its brightest and biggest phase this year.

Did you see it? If you have seen it, you will agree with us that although it was cloudy, the moon was beautiful.

Most of our K2 friends have seen it so, they made their MOON ART.

Wonderful artworks K2 FRIENDS 🙂

K2 Phonics Time

♫ The wheels on the bus go round and round ♫

Our K2 friends went to different places while riding our ‘imaginary’ bus and singing our song.

Otter friends used the sentence “I want to go to the post office.” and “I can see a ______ in the post office.”

Otter friends also used the sentence “I want to go to the beach.” and “I can see a ______ in the beach.”

Whale friends used the sentence “I want to go to the flower shop.” and “I can see a ______ in the flower shop.”

Whale friends also used the sentence “I want to go to the fire station.” and “I can see a ______ in the fire station.”

Nice thinking K2 friends. Although we cannot travel for real this time, you have lots of ideas and confidence to answer using our English sentences. Good job! 🙂

Meeting our new friends from TAIWAN

Before meeting our new friends from Taiwan, K2 friends learned a bit about where Okinawa, Japan and Taiwan are using the world map.

After that, we listened to a story about moon entitled ” まんまるいけのおつきみ” during our special story time. We also looked at the pictures of the moon since the Moon Festival is coming soon.

After that, we discovered that our Taiwan friends are also celebrating “Moon Festival”. So, we set up a zoom meeting to meet them.

Today, September 17th, 2021, our Kinder friends witnessed the Moon Festival ceremony of our Taiwan friends.

Our K2 friends showed them a Japanese hand play called “じゅうごやさんのもちつき” and our friends from Taiwan also performed a “Moon Festival” song and dance.

THANK YOU for the mooncake that you sent us Taiwan friends.

To remember our first meeting with them, K2 friends drew on their journal their memory of today’s event. Here are some of them.

This year, the MOON FESTIVAL will be next week, September 21st, 2021. If you have time, please watch the moon on its brightest and fullest size, coinciding with harvest time in the middle of Autumn with your child.

Have a great weekend 🙂

Welcome Back Kinder!

We were so happy to see everyone’s smiling faces at Kinder again. Although teachers used much caution with the children today we were able to have a great day. Thank you again, families, for all of your support over our closure. We were happy to see that the students are well and that they still remember our daily routines. They were so comfortable being at school again.
