K1 Theme Projects- Academic Review 1

Thank you parents and guardians for all of your support for our K1s throughout this year. We appreciate you!

We would like to take some time to share a photo review for you so we can see all our amazing K1s learned and accomplished this year. We explored three major themes this year- PLANTS, INSECTS & BUGS and EARTH SAVING. We will post them as a 3-part series. Our Theme Projects were decided on by the students, which greatly motivated them to learn more month by month. Please enjoy and please praise your child for a job well done this year!

Part 1- PLANTS「植物」

Our first Theme Project in K1 focused on observing PLANTS around AMICUS, learning what PLANTS need to grow, learning about PLANTS’ life cycles, namely, the cucumber, tomato, soy bean. We also did planting and MORE!

We learned about the parts of plants and what plants need to grow.

We made greenhouses for our soy bean seeds and presented our observations in front of the class.

We learned what IS a plant and what IS NOT a plant. We made plants using playdough.

We made a “Parts of Plants” book and learned to read about plants in English.

We learned about the life cycles of CUCUMBERS, SOY BEANS and TOMATOES.

We started planting on our Kinder Garden.

We enjoyed a Plants Treasure Hunt around Amicus.

K1s learned a lot about PLANTS in our activities. We hope they will grow healthy and strong like the PLANTS around our beautiful AMICUS.

Iha Walk and Garbage Pick-Up Memories

For our last field trip K1s challenged themselves and walked 2.5km to Iha Park (40 minutes). They enjoyed playing a lot at the park. On the way back to Kinder we picked up garbage along the road. We collected 4 large bags of “burnable garbage” and one bag of “non-burnable garbage”. It took us 1.5hours to walk back. K1s were tired but they could realize how strong their bodies are and appreciate their bodies. They could also understand how important it is to throw away garbage in the right place. We are EARTH SAVERS! 🙂

K1 Horse Riding

It was a beautiful day to ride horses. K1s enjoyed their experience. They learned about our Amicus horses’ names and ages. They learned how to touch the horse gently and the importance of greeting the horse before getting on and thanking the horse when getting off. Finally, after learning how to be safe around the horses, K1s were ready to ride.

Making Shell Ginger Bug Spray

We were taught by one of our K1 friends how to make bug spray (insect repellent) using shell ginger We really enjoyed this two-days project!

He taught us how to make the bug spray. K1s enjoyed cutting the shell ginger leaves. We used lemongrass, myrtle, and mugwort for different aroma.

We boiled the leaves over two days. After cooling, we prepared our spray bottles and put in the bug spray liquid. We were happy to share with Mr. Akiho because he had many bug bites from gardening

We went outside to test our bug spray. Please try our bug spray at home. Please note you can keep it for on 14 day.
