K2 Field Trip at 沖縄気象台

Today, we were blessed with great weather and wonderful experiences. We were warmly welcomed by the facility staff.
天気にも恵まれて、沖縄気象台の見学がスタートしました。
施設の外にある3つの天気に関する装置を紹介してもらいました!
左下の写真は、気温を測る装置。
真ん中の写真は、降水量を測る装置。
右下の写真は、風速を測る装置。

Then, they immediately introduced 3 special equipment to us.

We put water on the rain gauge and used fans to make the wind meter spin.
実際に、子どもたちもそれらの装置を使って、測ってみました。

After that, we went to inside their building.

Then, we had a special lecture.
幼稚園のアクティビティで出た質問を、まとめて下さり、子どもたちに説明をしていただきました。
天気予報の予報の仕方や、雷、虹、オーロラなど、分かりやすく教えてもらいました。

The next part was really interesting. We were divided into 3 groups.

We learned about TORNADO. Although we don’t really see tornado here in Okinawa, we learned to be careful and hide in a sturdy building in case we see it in other places.
レクチャーのあとは、竜巻の実験や、雨のかたちを見せてもらったり、風速の実験をしたり、
子どもたちは興味津々でした。

We also learned about RAINDROPS. Everyone was amazed how the tiny droplet of rain goes up. We also learned that it is actually sphere.

We tried the wind meter again. This time, we’ve seen it spin fast because of the electric fan. That’s when we realize that if it is windy, it will spin around fast and show us the direction where the wind is coming from.

Lastly, we went to their working place where the special computer shows the weather condition on earth sent by Sunflower satellite.
最後に、実際に天気予報をしていたり、衛星ひまわりで気象を観測している特別なお部屋を案内してもらいました。

We left the facility with grateful hearts and minds full of meaningful learnings today.
実際に天気のお仕事をしている方たちや場所に触れ、
子どもたちも色んな実験やお話を聞けて貴重な一日となりました。
沖縄気象台のみなさん、ほんとにありがとうございました!!

帰りのバスでも、気象台で学んだお話で盛り上がりました♪
☺雷がなんでおこるかわかった!
☺虹についてたくさん、勉強できてよかった~!
☺オーロラの話が一番びっくりした!
☺積乱雲ってにゅうどうぐものことだよね?他の言い方があるのがわかった!
☺雨のかたちは、涙の形じゃなくて、まるなんだってわかった~!

Before going back to school, we ate lunch and played at Yaeshima Park.

𝙺𝟸 𝙵𝚒𝚎𝚕𝚍 𝚃𝚛𝚒𝚙 + 𝙱𝚎𝚊𝚌𝚑 𝙲𝚕𝚎𝚊𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐🌊☀️🐚

We are learning about weather in Activity Time. So, we decided to go to the beach to spot more clouds, measure the ocean water temperature and learn more about water cycle.
アクティビティで学んでいることを、園の外に出て、違いがあるのかなという話になり、観察するために、ビーチに遠足に行ってきました!

Before going to the ocean, we had one friend who shared about her family going on beach cleaning to protect the turtle nesting shore.
海に行く前に、あるお友達が、ビーチクリーンに行ったことをShow and tellで教えてくれました。そこで、亀の卵を見つけたそうで、海を守ることの大切さを話してくれました。

Last week, K2 friends measured the cold and hot water temperature. They were also curious about the temperature of the sea water so, we also measured it today.
先週、アクティビティの中で、子どもたちは水の温度にも興味を持っていました。そこで、冷たい水、熱い水の温度を測ってみました!今日は、海水の温度も計ってみました。

𝕂𝟙 𝔸𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕧𝕚𝕥𝕪: ℙ𝕝𝕒𝕟𝕥𝕤

We have started focusing on our Main Theme- PLANTS! To start the theme K1s enjoyed playing the game “What is a Plant?” Many friends showed teacher that they understand well what plants are.
K1のアクティビティーのテーマは植物です。植物のゲームや活動を通して、子どもたちは植物に興味を持ち学び始めています。

We are planning to have a salad party in K1 this year in hopes that K1’s understanding and interest in healthy food habits will develop well for their good heath. As a class we thought about what we want to plant in our K1 Garden. The students voted. They decided to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots.
植物のアクティビティーを通して、健康の事にも興味を持ち始めているK1の子どもたち。
そこで、体に良い野菜を植えることになり、子どもたちと一緒に何の野菜を植えたいか多数決をとり決めました。その結果トマト、きゅうり、人参を植えることになりました。

早速、子どもたちと一緒に、幼稚園にある畑を耕しトマト・きゅうり・人参の苗や種を植えました。

🌥️ 𝕂𝟚 𝔸𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕧𝕚𝕥𝕪: ℂ𝕝𝕠𝕦𝕕𝕤 𝕒𝕟𝕕 ℝ𝕒𝕚𝕟 ☔

We are still learning about WEATHER.

This time, many friends said that they want to make clouds and learn their names so, we made a book.
アクティビティータイムで色々な雲について、手作りの絵本を作りました。

It’s reading time!😊

After learning about the names of the clouds, some friends were curious about the differences of each cloud. So, we focused this week on learning about the clouds that produce rain, lightning and thunder.
いろいろな種類の雲があることを学び、それぞれの雲の違いに興味を持ち始めました。
その中でも、雨と雷ができる雲について学び工作をしました。

We are also thankful of the rain, so we are learning an original poem “Thank you rain”.

After learning that poem, K2 friends wanted to sing as well🎵

They also made raindrops during Art Time. 🌧️

👍We are going to have our first field trip on Monday. Just in case, we made teru teru bōzu. ⛅We are hoping that the weather will be good. 🌞

Thank you for coming to our Open Class!

We enjoyed your visit to see our Circle Time, Activity Time and Phonics Time! We hope you had a good time. We hope you could see that your child is enjoying learning at school every day. We “challenge and try” every day. K1s are doing a super job!

🤲K2 👨‍🌾🌿Gardening🌱👩‍🌾

K2 friends start the day early. Usually, at 8:30 in the morning we go outside to have gardening. This helps our students develop their love for nature. It usually boosts their confidence as they able to take care, grow plants and produce fruits or vegetables. This everyday activity make them productive at the same time develop teamwork.
K2では、四月から毎朝天気の良い日はお庭のお世話をしています。
植物のお世話を通して、自然を大切する気持ちを育んでいけるよう取り組んでいます。

In April, we started cleaning up the plots. K2 friends took out the weeds and cultivated the soil.
土を耕したり、雑草抜きをし、野菜の種を植えられるよう準備をしてきました。

Then, we got horse manure and use our compost to mix with the soil. They learned that organic fertilizers help a lot in growing the plants.
その他にも土づくりのため、コンポスト作りや馬糞(堆肥)を使っています。身の回りのものを使うことで、環境の事も考え始めてきています。

We also planted some seeds.
整った畑で、種も植えました!

After gardening, they have time for outside play.

K1 friends had lunch at outside mostly everyday.

After we ate our lunch, we played at Kindergarten’s playground.🤩🙌

WE LOVE OUTSIDE PLAY!!🥰

自分たちの身を守ることや、安全にかかわることをたくさん学んだ幼稚園の子どもたち。何も起こらないことが一番ですが、何かが起きたとしても、考えて正しく行動することが大事ですね。引き続き、安全について日々意識しながら子どもたちと過ごしていきたいと思います。

Some Firsts: Phonics, Library, Activity…

K1 friends have been busy every day. We hope you are enjoying the stories they tell about their days.

Phonics

K1s are learning to write their name and about the letters and letter sounds of the A and B now. They are having fun singing the ABC song and learning the ASL sign for the letters. Ms. Berry is having fun, too!

Library

Last week we started Library Time. K1s can borrow 2 books every week. Please enjoy reading their books to them.

Activity Time- I’m Special Book Project

K1s continue learning about each other using their I’m Special book. Recently we worked on their page about how tall they are. They enjoyed measuring each other using non-standard measurement tools.
