K2 Activities about PLANTS

We have been learning about plants for long time.

We did many activities in the past few months. One of the examples is the flag idea of K2 friends for Sports Day where tie dye the cloth, made macramé, sew some fruits and stamp paint using leaves.

To continue, we also collected different kinds of plants and experimented on what color will show up if we use it to dye some bags.

During Story Time, Mr. Akiho also shared about some interesting plants.

After those activities, K2 friends have been more curious about different plants so, they asked many questions.

What are the parts of the plants?

What do plants need to grow?

“How does water goes up to the stem experiment”

Dandelion

  1. How does dandelion make a fluffy circle-shape flower?
  2. When do the seeds start flying?
  3. How many flowers can you see?

Why do some plants like sweet potato grow sideways and others grow up straight?

Why do some fruits like tomato fall on their own while others are strongly attached on the stem like okra?

What are the safe and dangerous plants in and outside of AMICUS?

How do plants spread their seeds?

We collected many materials like leaves, stems, sticks, flowers, etc. and made our Christmas decorations too.

K2 visited G1 friends

Our K2 friends are enjoying their life in Kinder. However, it is a reality that they want to grow and learn more. One of the things that they are excited about is being in FIRST GRADE. Thus, they are given the opportunity to visit their older brothers and sisters in Elementary.

G1 friends have been learning a lot. One of their lessons is counting 1-10 in MATH.

They played using dice, counted, and colored the numbers on their papers.

It was great to experience how G1 friends are having their Math lessons but more importantly, it was wonderful to mingle with them. Thank you G1 for accommodating us 🙂

K2 Class Flags

From October, K2 friends has been learning about plants. We had “HOW DOES IT SMELL GAME”.

They learned “It is fragrant.” and “It is stinky.”

After that, we went to have nature walk so they started checking some plants/leaves/flowers and tried to smell them.

Then, they had the idea of collecting gettou leaves, fruits and seeds.

As an experiment, we would like to know if it still smell good and what will be the color of the water after boiling them separately.

Then, we thought of our Sports Day flag idea. Since K2 friends and teachers love tie dye, we tried it.

It was perfect color as base for our flag! After few days of trying their best in making their original flag, here they are! This is a closer look of their own idea and creativity. Otter friends made their macramé leaves and Whale friends sewn their fruits.

Ideas are always made better by a group of people dedicated to a goal. It is proven by our K2 friends who worked hard to think of how they can show their creativity and work together to fulfill their task of creating their own SPORTS DAY FLAG. Good job K2 friends! 🙂

K2 loves PLANTS :)

Our K2 friends have been taking care of our GARDEN since APRIL. 🙂 It is a part of our morning routine to clean up outside, give water to our plants and of course, plant new plants. Here are some of the plants that we had and have in our garden.4がつからK2のみんなで おせわしている やさいやはな などのしょくぶつたち!

First, we planted OKRA 🙂 They produced and we harvested lots of Okra but later on, the leaves slowly decreased as they were eaten by the caterpillars and other insects. Well, it is part of the give and take of the circle of life.

We also harvested CARROTS, BITTER MELON and BELL PEPPER from our garden. 🙂

We heard that PANDAN has a fragrant leaves and it is commonly use as flavoring in the Philippines and other countries in Asia. Luckily, we received these “screwpine” leaves from one of our parents from Thailand. 🙂

During Spring, we also planted some FLOWERS to give color to our surroundings.

AVOCADO is one of the healthiest vegetable/fruit that’s why it is loved by many but growing it is a challenge. Our K2 friend here, did a great job of growing this avocado from home and brought it to school. It is growing steadily and we are excited to see it bigger and bear fruit :)アボカドはたねから そだててこんなにおおきくなりました!

Look at these trees. These are from the seeds that we literally just put on the soil and behold, we have these growing PAPAYA and MANGO trees. Amazing!

We also have SWEET POTATO in our garden. We just planted the stems and see how many potatoes it will produce in the coming months. 😉

Check out this ONIONS! We usually use lots of onions in our cooking so, we thought of planting some as well. They are growing fast 🙂

Since we have lots of plants in our garden, it is easy to forget what plant is it, so our Kinder friends thought of making PLANT SIGNS 🙂 This also lead us to a decision for our K2 THEME from this month which is PLANT.

This is BANANA BLOSSOM/FLOWER. In the Philippines, we use this to cook a healthy dish with coconut milk.

We hope to take care and learn more of our plants which is the main source of our food and oxygen! :)

Did you see it? If you have seen it, you will agree with us that although it was cloudy, the moon was beautiful.

Most of our K2 friends have seen it so, they made their MOON ART.

Wonderful artworks K2 FRIENDS 🙂
