Today, we celebrate Children’s Day in Japan. When you look around, you will see a lot of cloth carp streamers that are flown on poles outside of public buildings and private houses to bring luck and good fortune to the children inside. Koifish, or Carp, are believed to be strong, spirited fish and are revered for their determination in fighting as they swim upstream and through powerful waterfalls. Koinobori symbolize the desire for children to become brave and strong individuals. (Source: https://aboutjapan.japansociety.org/kodomo_no_hi_childrens_day_celebration)
Our Kinder friends made their own Koinobori too. First, we did tie dye.
Then, they made their own carp.
We also a big one that is in front of Kindergarten Building. ๐
We wish our Kinder friends strength and happiness in their life. Happy Children’s Day ๐
From last year, now, K2 friends have learned about SDGs. They made posters to promote taking care and saving of our MOTHER EARTH.
To help saving the earth, OUR LONG-TERM GOAL is to make compost by collecting banana, orange, and others compostable garbage that they our Kinder friends have after snack and lunch. The process involves decomposing organic material into a humus-like material, known as compost, which is a good fertilizer for plants.
We make compost to save the earth and to use this organic fertilizer in our garden in Kinder. Gardening is a part of our everyday routine. This year, we started growing different kinds of plants too.
This whole year project is very close to our heart so we will update often as soon as our new plants grow or when we plant again. ๐
Another goal came up so, we had a special meeting. After that, our K2 friends have decided to continue being earth savers. So, we will focus on one topic and starting this month our THEME is OCEAN.

K2 friends are really concerned with the ocean animals that they have learned so, they thought of taking care of the ocean. Thus, we asked them what would they like to do?
Student 1: Let’s clean up the ocean.
Teacher: Why do you want to clean up the ocean?
Student 2: Because if the ocean animals eat garbage, they will die.
This determination in them made us decide to plan our first field trip of the year. We coordinated with Uruma City Office about BEACH CLEANING ACTIVITY. But before that, we had a review of the segregation of the garbage that we may find on the shore.
Beach Cleaning Day: We did our best to clean up and of course, had fun after. ๐
After our field trip, we’ve discussed about our special mission “beach cleaning”.
Student 1: I got a lot of trash.
Student 2: I found many plastic.
Student 3: I am happy because I got some materials that we can use for Art.
Student 4: I am shock to see many garbage on the shore.
The next day, we had garbage sorting activity using some of the trash that we have collected on the shore.
Some of these garbage were put in the garbage and others are useful for us so clean them up and kept for future use. What do you think can we do with these? Do you think they can turn into something beautiful?
Tomorrow, April 21, 2022 will be our first P.E. day. Please don’t forget to let your child wear your P.E. uniform tomorrow. Please bring extra clothes (AMICUS gray t-shirt and blue pants) as well.
Thank you and we are looking forward to have fun and energy-filled Physical Education activities with our Kinder friends.
Calligraphy is one of the highlights this year as our K2 friends learned how to read and write in Hiragana then, Kanji at the end. Here is a glimpse of their experience. Please enjoy watching ๐
Every year on March 3rd, Japan celebrates the Doll Festival (Japanese,ย Hina Matsuri). Until recently, Girls’ Day was also celebrated on March 3rd. On this day every year, families set up a special step-altar on which to arrange their Emperor and Empress dolls, called “hina” in Japanese. They decorate this altar with boughs of peach blossoms and make offerings to theย hinaย dolls of freshly made rice cakes (mochi), either flavored with a wild herb or colored and cut into festive diamond shapes. Here at the Kyoto National Museum, we hold an exhibition of dolls every year sometime between February and April in celebration of the Doll Festival. (Source: https://www.kyohaku.go.jp/eng/dictio/senshoku/hina.html)
In Kinder, we read the story about Hina Matsuri. Since it is “Girl’s Day”, we ask our K2 girls to choose their partner and took pictures in our special doll panel.
K2 friends learned many things about plant. One of the things that we did is to experiment if “Beans Sprout Seeds” will be able to grow on water and cotton.
They check and took care of it everyday.
They were really happy to see the bean sprout growing so they wanted to take care by themselves so, we gave them that chance.
They sprayed water as soon as they come in the morning, during breaks and before going home.
However, there was a delay in the growth of the beans. We are guessing that it could be because of the weather. But today, they brought them home. Please talk to your child how was the experience of growing beans sprout seeds. They expressed the idea of growing it for few more days then, they would like to cook and eat this vegetable. However, some friends desire to plant them in a bigger pot and hopefully harvest the seeds in the future. Whatever your child decides is fine. If you want to share few pictures when they come back on what they did to the beans sprout, it will be greatly appreciated. This would be helpful to continue encouraging our K2 friends to be more responsible and plant-loving students.
Our Kindergarteners are listening and encountering many English words everyday. We also learned more of it during ACTIVITY and PHONICS Time. Starting April we reviewed the alphabet and letter sounds based on what we’ve learned in K1.
Then, we had many different styles of learning the alphabet and words. These are some the games that we had to remember new vocabulary and sentences.
Even during distance learning, we never missed Phonics Time.
After summer break, we continue to learn more.
Of course, we also enjoy creating something beautiful using the alphabet.
Those are some of the memories that prove that our K2 friends enjoy learning the alphabet everyday so, we came up of a challenge for them.
Today we conducted our K2 PHONICS QUIZ BEE. This event encourages friendly competition and boost the confidence of K2 students to bring out the English skills they have acquired during Phonics class and their everyday exposure with the language.
