Welcome Fall, Welcome Term 2!

Last weekend marked the end of summer and the beginning of the beautiful fall season. K1s learned about the wonderful seasonal hobby of “moon watching” or じゅうごや。We had fun learning the Japanese traditional song, うさぎつき (Rabbit and the Moon)。K1s made beautiful artwork about the full autumn moon. They used several different art techniques. They had a great time. Please enjoy the photos. We hope you enjoyed a peaceful Autumn Break. We were happy to see most of our K1s back today to start Term 2 with fun!

K1- Growing again…

K1s have been enjoying a lot of activities related to their theme- ANIMALS. They are enjoying discovering the beautiful nature and small animals around them.

Last week we renewed our K1 garden. We decided to plant 4 crops- tomatoes and cucumbers (we want to try again), and eggplants and green peppers. We enjoyed Quiz Time- guessing which plant grows which vegetable. K1s used their 5 senses. It was fun!

先週はK1の畑に、新しく野菜の苗を植えました。さて、なんの野菜の苗でしょうか!植え付ける前に、何の苗なのか形・色・においなどをヒントにクイズを行い、みんなとても興味津々でした。😊

現在K1の子ども達は「Animals」について学んでいます。Land animal, Water animal, Flying animal について識別ゲームをしたり、Hide and seek( かくれんぼ)にちなんで、Kinderに隠れている動物カード探しをしました。絵本・歌・動作・ワークシートなどを使って、動物の動き・体の部分(動詞・名詞・形容詞)などについても学んでいるところです。😊

K1 Show and Tell (9/11-9/19)

Thank you again for your support for our K1s Mission. The Mission is COMPLETE! All K1s have presented and we learned a lot about the foods they made and how they are good for our bodies. It is encouraging to hear that they are using their S&T sentences to talk about their snack and lunch with one another. We look forward to challenging them more as we get into Term 2!

夏休みに取り組んでもらった植物に関する課題の Show & Tell 、今週で全員の発表を終えることができました。今までに食べたことがない野菜や果物を選び、視覚・触覚・聴覚・嗅覚・味覚を使って調べ、それぞれの分かったことをK1のみんなに共有してくれました。👏✨

発表する際に習った、”I made ~.” “It was ~.” のフレーズを発表する子と一緒に全員でも反復練習していたので、子ども達は英語のフレーズを自分ごとに置き換え、スナックタイムやランチタイムでも “It was yummy!” “It’s sweet.” “It’s sour.” ”It’s bumpy!” などの声が聞こえるようになりました。

大勢の前に出ての発表は緊張したと思いますが、Show & Tell を終えた後はみんな自信がついたかのようにキラキラした笑顔を見せていました。ご家庭での取り組み、ご協力ありがとうございました。🥰💓

Last week, K1 friends were working so hard to make the gifts for their grandparents who are Mommy’s parents and Daddy’s parents. We hope you all had a great weekend with your family and that their grandparents like their gifts!🥰

三連休は、おじいちゃん・おばあちゃんと楽しい時間を過ごせたでしょうか。先週K1の子ども達は、いつもお世話になっている大好きなおじいちゃん・おばあちゃんの為に、感謝の気持ちを込めて一生懸命プレゼントを作りました。一つはママのご両親、もう一つはパパのご両親へです。 🥰

For the wood art, we recycled the tree from Amicus that fell down in the last big typhoon🌳🌪 K1s are thinking a little about SDGs

ビーズの下にある木の部分は、8月の大きな台風6号の被害で倒れてしまったアミークス校内の木を再利用して作りました。K1の子ども達にとって、このプレゼント作りはとても良い経験になりました。🥰✨

K1 Show & Tell (9/4-9/8)

We continue to enjoy hearing about our K1s’ food experiences and how the food they cooked with benefits our bodies. More friends are challenging themselves to eat a variety of different foods. They are learning to present their work to their friends and speaking in a big voice. They are also learning how to ask each other questions. It has been a fun experience so far!

K1 We are back!!

We are very happy that K1 friends are back at AMICUS!! Also they were very happy to see their friends after a long time.

We enjoyed doing our K1 NEWS Channel interview program!! “How was your Summer Break?” “What did you do?” “What did you see?” “Where did you go?”

We all wanted to appear on the news, so we had sharing time with all of K1 friends during Art time. Then, we drew about “My summer break memories” in our sketchbooks.

Finishing the Summer Break

Hello, K1 friends and parents!! We hope you all had a great summer break🥰

Before summer break we were growing tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots in our K1 Garden. Unfortunately the carrots did not grow. Some of our tomato plants grew but quickly died. Fortunately, our cucumber plants did grow up and we are able to harvest one cucumber from K1’s garden with Azukari friends before the big typhoon came! It was a good experience for the students. We learn that sometimes growing food can be difficult, but we will try again! We are planning to plant winter vegetables after K1s return and learn how to better take care of our crops. We hope no more typhoons will come 😉

AMICUS will resumes tomorrow!! So, we would like to announce about what students need to bring here. Please make sure that your child bring these things in the below:

🌊🏊‍♂️Water play and Summer Clothes Day👭

Yehey! It’s summer break. But before that, we had a really fun day.

We received bunches of banana from G2 parent. Kinder friends were amazed to see green bananas turning into yellow. So, yesterday we ate bananas during snack time.

After that, we had water play.

K1 Group Learning continues🍅🥒

The days have been long and sunny, but K1s have continued to learn a lot in spite of the heat.

This week we divided the class into 2 groups for Group Learning Time. We learned more deeply about tomatoes and cucumbers. We used our 5 senses (感覚)to learn about these foods. Their different observations were very interesting. Some friends said, “Tomatoes are quiet”(トマトは静か), and “Tomatoes are plump!” (トマトはぷにゃぷにゃ) . Some friends said, “Cucumbers smell like muchi”(キュウリはムーチーのにおいがする), and “Cucumbers taste bitter.”(キュウリは苦い) We shared our observations and made poster cards of our senses.

Smell : 嗅覚

Taste : 味覚

Touch : 触覚

K1の子達に観察の結果を聞いてみたところ、たくさんの気づきがありました。また、五感に関する bumpy, smooth, rough, hard, soft, round, long, sweet, bitter, sour, spicy, salty, yummy, crunchy, crispy, juicy, quiet などの英単語も同時に学んでいます。そして、group learningで学んだことを、お互いに発表しました。

11日(火)は、G8の生徒たちが来てくれました。彼らはK1のお友達のために素敵なname tagを作ってくれました。メッセージカードとともに私たちにそれを与えてくれました。さっそくそれをバックパックにつけている子がたくさんいます。G8、ありがとう!!

夏休みまであと三日間!長い週末を楽しんでね!
