On Friday, July 18th, during 3rd and 4th periods, we held a special grade-level event organized by parents. The day began with a visit from Okinawa Ichimushi-kai, a group that protects local species like the Okinawa rhinoceros beetle and medaka fish.We explored the school grounds to learn about the Okinawa beetle, guided by Raika Shimabukuro, a former AMICUS student. His detailed explanations amazed everyone—did you know there are nine types of cicadas in Okinawa?
After the walk, Mr. Kuninaka gave us more in-depth information about the beetles. Students were excited to hear that they might receive larvae after summer vacation to try raising their own beetles!
For lunch, parents kindly prepared homemade curry, cotton candy, and shaved ice. Before eating,
Sora Kishibe’s mother, who runs a pig farm, gave a meaningful talk about the pigs used for the curry—what kind of animals they are, and why we should value them.
